UPDATE: Tractor trailer Carrying Fertilizer Overturned in Monticello

On May 29, 2023, at approximately 6:30 AM the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident on Route 1 in Monticello. Chance Beaulieu (21) of Monticello was operating a commercial motor vehicle registered to River View Transport of Littleton and was traveling northbound on Route 1 in Monticello. The vehicle being operated by Chance left the roadway and turned onto its side. At the time of the crash the vehicle was carrying a load of approximately 25 tons of a Urea Type Fertilizer in powder form. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was notified and responded to the scene. The substance was determined to be non-hazardous. The fertilizer was removed under supervision of the Department of Environmental Protection. Beaulieu was transported by Southern Aroostook Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Route 1 was shut down for approximately 8 hours and traffic was re-routed to the Hill Siding Road in Monticello while clean-up was conducted.
The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Maine State Police Troop K Commercial Vehicle Unit and the Monticello Fire Department.
